July 14 – You Have A Purpose In This World
4:196 – You Have A Purpose In This World

Setting

Sometimes we think we’d be better off not in this world. Other times we fantasize about what Heaven will be like. Will it meet our expectations? What will our experience be?

Even though we know that God keeps all his promises and we have eternal love through Christ, it’s not our time until it’s out time. We have work to do here. If we didn’t, God would call us home.

Today’s Questions: What work do you have to do on this Earth? If you don’t know, how will you get the answer?

Scripture
  • John 17:15 – My prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one.
  • Colossians 3:23-24 – Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.
Reflection

I’ve wondered what it would be like if I wasn’t here. How would my family carry on? I’ve also wondered if I’m worth anything and why I’m still here. As we see in John, we have purpose in the world it’s not time to take us out. Our job is to love, help, and protect each other from temptation and Satan.

if its not our time yet, and we need to be in the world, what’s out purpose? God has a plan for each one of us. Whatever our work is, it’s meaningful, and we need to do it with all hearts. Our reward will come when it’s time. We need to be patient, do our work, and wait for our inheritance. But waiting isn’t passive, we have work to do.

I don’t have specific answers for what your day to day is, except to love and be reminded that we have to help and protect each other. If that means working in a grocery store or CEO of a company, a janitor or a pilot, or anything in between. Do that job and use it as a chance to share love, protection, and Christ.

As we close, remember two things. It’s not your time yet and we get the privilege of helping others.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, thank you for your promises of inheritance and everlasting life. We can’t wait until we are called home to be with yoi. You make it clear that it’s not our time yet. Since it’s not our time, we have work to do. Give us strength to protect your children, love one another, and do it with cheer. We pray this in your name, Amen.
