4:99 – The Future is Unknown to Us and Is Exciting
#faithbites #faithjourney unknown
Setting
God has a unique way of messing with us when he wants us to learn. Lately, I’ve been wondering about what tomorrow holds and in less that 24 hours, he opened my eyes. First, last night, I saw something that I think will happen, a friend replied that he knows I was wrong. My thoughts was unless he’s travelled to the future, he can’t possibly know I’m wrong. I may be but he can’t with certainty say that. Then today, I got to spend time with our prospective medical students during second look. To see the excitement, fear, joy, and wonder as they are about to step into the unknown with medical school is just riveting. I am excited to see what they chose to do next. Yes, neither of these helps me know what God wants me to do, but it tells me there is excitement and joy in both the unknown and in his plans.
Today’s Questions: What is unknown to you that you are excited about? Are you able to truly turn it over to God and live in the excitement and not in the worry?
Scripture
- Ecclesiastes 8:7 – Since no one knows the future, who can tell someone else what is to come?
- James 4:13-15 – Now listen, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money.” 14 Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. 15 Instead, you ought to say, “If it is the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that.”
- Psalm 32:8 – I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my eye upon you.
Reflection
The future is unknown to us. This is part of God’s plan. We can’t know what tomorrow brings. When we try to predict, we can often get into worry and doubt. It can be a scary time. I want to know how this all turns out and what my life will be like, but it’s not in the cards. We see in all our texts, that tomorrow isn’t promised. We should live and love today according to God’s plan. The verse that really warms my heart is Psalm 32:8. I may not know what tomorrow is going to bring, but I do know God will be with me, he will teach me as I venture into the unknown and above all, he will counsel me.
The future is as open as we want it to be. We can be a bit nervous and excited. Knowing that God is already there and he will counsel and protect us is all the assurance I need. Thank you, Jesus.
As we close, remember, God has your back. The future is unknown to you, but not to God.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, thank you for reminding us that we are loved and protected by you. You know what tomorrow is going to bring and even though we don’t, you’ve taught us how to live. We pray that you calm our hearts, open our minds, and let us get excited about all the opportunities you will provide for us. In your name, Amen.
