4:73 – Because It Was Fun!
#faithbites #faithjourney fun
Setting
I enjoy 3D printing. Sometimes it’s not practical but it is fun. Last night, I printed a wicker basket to store our masks in rather than the masks being all over the place. When I posted a picture in a Facebook group, someone said they were torn on it because why spend 2 days and $30 in filament when you could buy a $2 basket. While his numbers weren’t right, his sentiment was right. I could have easily gone to the dollar tree and bought one but I wouldn’t have had the fun or enjoyment of making it.
Our life isn’t always practical. Heck, following Christ is often not fun, challenging, and hard. But, we know what awaits those who follow him in faith. Jesus wants us to live an enjoyable life and have fun.
Today’s questions: What are you doing that is fun? How does your faith help you enjoy life to it’s fullest?
Scripture
- Ecclesiastes 5:18 – Behold, what I have seen to be good and fitting is to eat and drink and find enjoyment in all the toil with which one toils under the sun the few days of his life that God has given him, for this is his lot.
- Psalm 16:11 – You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.
- Psalm 37:4 – Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.
Reflection
Today’s main verse is Ecclesiastes 5:18. We see two main points. We will find enjoyment in and because of our work and God has given this to us. As someone once told me, they wouldn’t call it work if it was fun, it’s work. We can have both. We see that God has given all of this to us the good and the work. He wants us to enjoy life and have pleasures of our heart. We don’t always do things because they are practical but because there is enjoyment.
Imagine if we just did whatever we wanted and had everything given to us. We wouldn’t enjoy the fruits of our labor. Sure, I could have bought a $2 wicker basket but when i broke I would throw it away. It’s just a thing. This basket is my work. Just as in faith, Jesus bought our lives with his. He wants us to enjoy the life he bought and we still have to work at it. It’s not work for salvation but work to help others know and enjoy Jesus.
As we close, remember to have fun. Not everything has to be practical or make the most sense. It can be fun as God wants us to enjoy his world, his creations, and his world.
Prayer
Father God, thank you for reminding us that there is fun to be had. We know we have to work at it but we should enjoy our toil as it helps to move the kingdom of God forward. Lord, remind us that not everything has to be serious and the most practical. Let us see the enjoyment and beauty that is all around us. We pray all these things In your name, Amen.
