4:65 – This Is Holy Ground
#faithhbites #faithjourney holy
Intro
I was driving my daughter to a babysitting training class today and noticed a church’s digital sign. It has a simple message: This is Holy Ground.
As I drove away, I kept thinking about that message. We know that churches and cemeteries are Holy Ground. We’ve all seen enough movies to know that the monsters can’t step foot there. But what makes them Holy places?
Today’s Questions: How do you act on Holy Ground? What if we considered all places to be Holy Ground?
Scripture
- Exodus 3:2-5 There the angel of the Lord appeared to him in flames of fire from within a bush. Moses saw that though the bush was on fire it did not burn up. 3 So Moses thought, “I will go over and see this strange sight—why the bush does not burn up.” 4 When the Lord saw that he had gone over to look, God called to him from within the bush, “Moses! Moses!” And Moses said, “Here I am.” 5 “Do not come any closer,” God said. “Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy ground.”
- Joshua 5:15 – And the commander of the Lord’s army said to Joshua, “Take off your sandals from your feet, for the place where you are standing is holy.” And Joshua did so.
Reflection
The Bible only mentions Holy Ground twice. In Exodus, which is repeated in Act 7:33, and in Joshua. When we look at it, it’s not the physical ground that is holy. The land is holy because the Lord is present.
If we use that as a definition, why isn’t every place holy? What if we invited Jesus to be with us everywhere and not just during Church service or worship?
In a holy place, we normally watch our tone, treat others with more respect, realize God’s power over us, love others more than ourselves, and show deference to God. I’m sure that if we treated everyplace as holy life would be very different.
As we close, try to make every place you visit holy. Act as if God is with you 24 x 7, since he is. Share his love wherever you are.
Prayer
Father God, you tell us that you are present everywhere. We pray that you help us make everyplace holy. Let us flow your word and your commandments in all places and all times. When we fail, please forgive us and help us work towards that goal. In your name we pray, Amen.
