Are You Giving Someone A Boost?
February 11 – Boost Someone Up

4:42 – Boost Someone Up

Setting

During my morning shower, the song, When You’re Good To Momma, from Chicago the Musical popped into my head. The lyrics that hit home today are, “The folks atop the ladder /Are the ones the world adores /So boost me up my ladder, kid/ And I’ll boost you up yours”. This got me to thinking how do I boost people up? This sounds to be against what our society shows. We see that with hard work you can beat anyone and be hte best. What if we turned the conversation to see how could we equally boost each other up?

Life isn’t a zero sum game. There is enough for all of us to love, live, and win together.

Todays questions: Are you trying to better yourself at the expense of others? How do you boost others up? What can our faith in Jesus show us about boosting others?

Scripture
  • Hebrews 10:24-25 And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, 25 not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching
  • Romans 15:2 – Each of us should please our neighbors for their good, to build them up.
  • 1 Thessalonians 5:11 – Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.
Reflection

Spurring on one another. Build up our neighbors. Encourage one another. These are God’s words. He wants us to try to build up rather than tear down. Just scrolling through social media or the news, we see how people tear each other down. It may be a minor mistake or a major one, but people are there to jump on it and tear it down. Let us, as God’s children, resist that urge. Help us to defend, support, and boost one another. There is enough negativity in this world without us partaking.

As we close and focus on God’s word, how are you going to build up your neighbors? Let us focus on sharing what we have and find ways to help them become the best servant of God they can.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, you are the example we should always follow. Often, we succumb to the ways of the world. This world wants us to be selfish rather than selfless. Help us to boost up others in everything we do.

Lord, we know you put people in our lives who are to boost us up. Help us to accept that help as it comes from you. We pray all this in your name, Amen.
