Begin Again
September 1 – New Day, New Choices, New You
3:245 – New Day, New Choices, New You

I don’t know about you, but sometimes I have the best ideas while taking a shower. I don’t know if it’s the white noise of the water, the sensory overload, or what. Anywho, today was one of those days. After I turned off the water, I just starred at the curtain as if it was a portal to a new world. When I pulled back the curtain, I realized that I have the choice and the opportunity to make today whatever I want it to be.

Each day is a new opportunity to be a better human, a better servant of Christ. He forgives all of our sins and empowers us to be better. We are a new creation in Christ.

What will you do to make the most of your new day?

Scripture
  • 2 Corinthians 5:17 – Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.
  • Galatians 2:20 – I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
  • Colossians 2:9-10 – Do not lie to one another, seeing that you have put off the old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its creator.
Reflection

The idea of starting a new journey or adventure is exciting as well as scary. At work, we have new people starting. It’s going to be great to have more people to do the work and it’s scary as things are going to change.

In Jesus, we have tossed away our old self. It’s not a one and done occurrence. We have the ability to do this daily through his forgiveness. While we get the privilege of being new, it comes with responsibilities. We have to act as Christ would want us to and not lie, cheat, steal, or act as our old self acted.

It’s not easy at all to pull back that curtain and leave everything down the drain. Rather than look at what we are going to lose, look at what we will gain. New choices, new opportunities, and a new life through Christ.

Challenge

When you get out of the shower this morning or how ever you start the day, what are you doing to do to cast off the old and being the new? Share it with someone else to gain accountability. Thank Jesus for the opportunity to begin anew.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, thank you for your forgiveness. Thank you for the opportunity to be new creatures in you. Through your sacrifice, we can cast off the sins of the past and work towards being more like you. Help us when we struggle. Give us strength when the old familiar ways of sin seem easy. Remind us when we falter, you will pick us up. When we sin, you will make us clean again. We love you and can’t thank you enough for this precious gift. In your name, Amen.
