3:192 – People Are Dumb
#faithbites #faithjourney dumb
I’m sitting poolside listening to the kids ages 6,9,10,11. They were talking about behaving and then it got to wearing masks. My daughter said people are dumb when they aren’t wearing masks and they don’t know how to wear them.
While I don’t necessarily agree with that statement, as a species we make dumb decisions and it goes back to the forbidden fruit.
Sin is tempting, if it wasn’t, no one would do it. It’s a tool of the devil. So we don’t need to call each other names, we can recognize when we make bad choices.
Are you making good or dumb choices?
Scripture
- Proverbs 2:6 – For the Lord gives wisdom; from His mouth comes knowledge and understanding.
- Phillipians 4:8 – Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things.
Reflection
When we are deciding if something is a good or bad decision, we should ask a few questions.
1) What does the Bible Say? – are there stories or lessons about this type of decision that can guide us?
2) What would Jesus do? – how would our Lord react to this situation? What this would he reflect on first?
3) Does this bring Glory to God? – Are we behaving in a way God would want? Are we reflecting his teaching and his laws?
While you won’t be able to search the Bible for the answer of “Should I buy this 3D printer”?, You can find lessons about spending wisely, making decisions within budget, and being creative.
Many of us aren’t used to asking these three questions before we do something, which often leads us to make stupid or dumb decisions.
Ok, back to watching the kids on the pool as they are making bad decisions by being too rough with each other.
Challenge
Think of one decision you made recently that didn’t turn out so well. Ask yourself those three questions. If you had asked yourself those before hand, would you have made a different decision? Try it now for a current or future decision and let God help you.
Prayer
Father God, help us to make good and not dumb choices. We often make decisions without thinking of the implications. Let us ask ourselves how that choice reflects on your teaching and how you would want us to behave. As always, we need you in our lives. Be with us and protect us. In your name, Amen.
