3:109 – We Love Our Teachers
#faithbites #faithjourney teachers
When I went to college, my dream was to become a high school chemistry teacher. My goal was to help others have passion for the subject and see how far they could go. My father even said that I may not be a champion in sports but I could coach an Olympic Champion.
I bring this up because personally I find teachers amazing. They help us learn not only what’s in the book but also serve as mentors and life long friends. Without teachers, where would we be?
I also bring this up because during this pandemic, teachers are one of the unsung heroes. They are essential but not in the office as many essential workers are. Teachers are trying to learn new ways of teaching in days to a changing situation. They are also ridiculed when anything goes wrong. We should love them.
Scripture
- James 3: 1-2 – Not many of you should become teachers, my brothers, for you know that we who teach will be judged with greater strictness. For we all stumble in many ways. And if anyone does not stumble in what he says, he is a perfect man, able also to bridle his whole body
- Psalm 32:8 – I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my eye upon you.
Reflection
Being a teacher is a sacred job. It has responsibilities for leading a new generation. A teacher is also not perfect and with stumble. Are here bad apples? Sure, they in all professions. But as we see in James, a teacher is often judged more strictly than other professions.
The disciples often called Jesus, Rabbi, as that means teacher. He led them, helped them, and taught them. He was also killed for his teachings.
While our teachers aren’t being dragged through the streets and killed, they are in general being paid well below what they should, are often ridiculed for choices made my administration, and not supported in what they do.
Sure, teachers make mistakes but we all do. It’s through the forgiveness of Christ that we are made pure. Let’s give them all an extra helping of Grace through these challenging times.
Thank you teachers and educators in general.
Challenge
Find one teacher and thank them. It’s easy to do. Just wish them well and thank them for everything they are doing. They will appreciate it.
Prayer
Father God, be with our teachers. They are doing the best they can under crazy circumstances. They are going above and beyond the call by trying to teach their students during this trying time. Give them the love and support they need. Help the rest of us to understand the work they do and give them Grace as we all learn new things. We love you and thank you for everything and every teacher you give us. In your name, Amen.
