3:62 – Be Thankful For Heat

#faithbites #faithjourney #FirstWorldProblems heat

It was in the mid 30s up to the 40s today. Not too bad, but when I got to the office it was cold. Yes, it was in the mid 60s and dropping throughout the day. Most of us were complaining, bundling up, and just cold. My office has come air blowing. Something was broken.

When we think of it, that’s a #FirstWorldProblem for sure. Most people in the world would be thankful for a shelter, food, power, drink, no war. Here we were complaining it was cold.

We often complain about things we don’t have while neglecting to be thankful for what we have. Sure, the heat was broken, but we were far from in danger. Do you ever think about how truly blessed you are?

Scripture
  • give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. – 1 Thessalonians 5:18
  • And God will generously provide all you need. Then you will always have everything you need and plenty left over to share with others. – 2 Corinthians 9-8
Reflection

This goes without saying, we are blessed more than we know. We have so much and yet we complain and want more. This is part of our sinful nature.

Today when I was cold, I out in a sweatshirt and was ok. I had it in my office and was good to go. Sure, it was a little colder than I like, but I was safe.

Imagine if we looked at it as a glass full instead of a glass empty. If we approached all experiences with a full plate instead of not seeing what we have and always wanting more.

Hopefully when we go to work tomorrow, there will be heat. If not, I know I am still better off that the vast majority of people in the world and be happy. I’m hoping I can convince my little one that she doesn’t need yet another snack before bed as she has so much more food than everyone else. One step at a time.

Challenge

Think about the last thing you complained about. Write it down. Then look at everything you have. Turn it around. How does that change your outlook?

Prayer

Lord Jesus, help us be thankful for what we have. We have times when we forget what you’ve given us and want more and more. Remind us how blessed we are. Allow us to remember the difference between needs and wants. Let us be ever gracious for all you provide. In your name, Amen.
