3:33 – It’s Not As Bad As You Think

#faithbites #faithjourney bad

My eldest got a haircut today and at first she liked it, now she hates it. She thinks it looks terrible. Then she made a cake and thought it was terrible because of the way she decorated it.

In reality, she looks cute and the cake tastes great. But it’s not up to her standard, so she’s having a rough night.

Many times, we think what we do is terrible and the end of the world. That there is no way we can be forgiven or loved. The fact is, we are much harder on ourselves. Through Jesus, we are forgiven and always loved.

Scripture
  • If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. – 1 John 1:9
  • My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. – 1 John 2:1
Reflection

The bottom line is God doesn’t want us to sin. He knows that sin and temptation are bad for us. But no matter what we do, no matter what unrighteousness we encounter, Jesus will cleanse us. He will bridge that divide and we are white as snow.

Knowing that it’s never as bad as we think I’m God’s eyes helps, though convincing a 10 year old that her haircut isn’t the end of the world is another story.

This too shall pass unlike our complete forgiveness from sins by Christ, Jesus.

Challenge

Are you beating yourself up about something? Is there something that you are harder on yourself than everyone else? Turn it over to God. He has already forgiven you. Just listen to him and pray. You will be clean again.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, hear our prayers. We carry so much regret, pain, and broken illusions in our heart and head. Help us to know that no matter what we’ve done, you will forgive us. Your love conquers everything. Even though we hold onto it, let your healing hands comfort us and let us know that it’s never that bad. There is nothing that you can’t forgive. In your name Lord, Amen.
