3:3 – FOMO: Fear Of Missing Out
#faithbites #faithjourney FOMO
Do you ever do something, just o you don’t miss out? Tonight, we drove to Iowa so we wouldn’t miss my family’s Christmas, and I sat by the pool even though I was in pain and couldn’t swin. I had FOMO. I want to be there for everything. Is it because I want to control everything or maybe it’s because I just want to be there. I’m not sure.
In everything we do, we need to think are we taking a specific action because we have FOMO or because it’s what is right and good according to God?
Scripture
- Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven – Matthew 6:10
- Call to me, and I will answer you; I will tell you wonderful and marvelous things that you know nothing about. – Jeremiah 33:3
- Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, “This is the way; walk in it.” – Isaiah 30:21
Reflection
We want to matter. We want our presence to matter. Sometimes we do things that we later regret because of FOMO. It could be missing out on relationships, activities, or anything. It may lead us to drink, smoke, sex, gambling, or any of a number of things that are harmful in the long rub.
The way to avoid this, or at least reduce it, is to call to God and listen to how he replies. When we feel regret, it is because we didn’t listen. We all do it. The awesomeness of Christ is we can be forgiven.
FOMO can be a bad thing but it can also be a motivator. It all depends on if we are following God’s plan or not.
For me, I will try to listen God and make the best choice I can. When I mess up, forgiveness and learning is my next choice.
Challenge
FOMO is something we all have every day. If you feel it, ask for direction before making a decision. When God answers, follow it. Even if it’s hard. He knows what’s best for you.
Prayer
Lord, thank you for direction and forgiveness. We often dont want to miss out or disappoint others. Sometimes, it’s been t our own detriment. Help us to follow your word and you when making our choices. We know, we never ever have to experience FOMO when it comes to our everlasting life. Amen
