2:348 – When Is It God’s Voice?
#faithbites #faithjourney voice
I had a conversation with a good friend today. When something we hadn’t planned happened, I said it was Gods voice. She said, why was this God’s voice but when she said something it wasn’t God’s voice. That stuck with me. Maybe it was God’s voice, maybe it wasn’t. Maybe it was the start of something, maybe not.
How do we know when the voice or pull we hear is God’s voice and not temptation or the devil? Faith.
Scripture
- Call to me and I will answer you, and will tell you great and hidden things that you have not known. – Jeremiah 33:3
- And your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, “This is the way, walk in it,” when you turn to the right or when you turn to the left. – Isaiah 30:21
- I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my eye upon you. Be not like a horse or a mule, without understanding, which must be curbed with bit and bridle, or it will not stay near you. – Psalm 32:8-9
Reflection
It can be difficult to discern when it is God’s voice and not. To my friend, she was speaking God’s words, but others weren’t ready to hear it yet. In that circumstance, they needed thr bit and bridle, where she heard the voice in her year.
Sometimes, we heard God loudly and can act based on what he wants. I wish it was like everyday, but it’s not. Often, we have our own desires and wishes. Those speak louder than God.
The wonderful thing is he’s always there. He’s always speaking. Sometimes we hear it loud and clear and change our course. Other times, it takes many many failures before we get it. But God never gives up. It may take time for the voice you hear to reach everyone and make a change.
When in doubt, pray on it. Sometimes, you will get it before others. Other times, they will get it before you. Have patience with them.
Challenge
When you hear the voice of God first, try to resist the “I told you so mentality”. When others hear it first, listen to them and be open.
Prayer
Father God, be with our church in this season of building, celebrating your Son, and change. We know you are with us always. Some hear your voice loud, others dont hear it as soon. Help us all to discern what is our voice and your voice. Give us our strong to act on your voice. When we fail, which we will, forgive us. We are so grateful for everything you do for us. Thank you for speaking in our lives. In your name, Amen.
