From Lightness to darkness

2:317 – Yelling Doesn’t Stop The Son From Shining

#faithbites #faithjourney Shining

“Daddy, turn off the light.” “I don’t want to wake up.” “Grrrrr.” “It’s still sleep time.” This is what I faced this morning when trying to get my youngest up. She was all about sleeping and fighting me every step of the way.

At that moment, I realized that no matter how much she fought against waking up or screamed about getting dressed, time was passing and the sun would shine.

In our faith, God is eternal. Nothing can stop the Son from shining. He will shine regardless of what we or others do. How others behave doesn’t stop us from having a relationship with Jesus. People believing in other things doesn’t stop me from believing what I do.

Jesus will keep on shining his light no matter what. Let us follow his example and shine along with him.

Scripture
  • Then Jesus again spoke to them, saying, “I am the Light of the world; he who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life.” – John 8:12
  • Yet I am writing you a new command; its truth is seen in him and in you, because the darkness is passing and the true light is already shining. Anyone who claims to be in the light but hates a brother or sister is still in the darkness. – 1 John 2:8-9
Reflection

We can choose to be in the light or the darkness. IF we are in the darkness, it doesn’t stop Jesus’s light from shining. Others decide how they want to live. We can want the best for them but can’t force them to live in the light. But no matter their choice, we have been commanded to love them or we are in the darkness.

It’s hard to live in his light when it’s 0-Dark-30 and the kids won’t get up. It is a challenge when people are saying what you believe is wrong. You will be frustrated when their darkness is trying to overpower your light. Remember your light can be overpowered, but the light of Christ is eternal. This is a lesson I need when I’m about to lose my cool.

Challenge

The world will revolve around the sun. The world will also revolve around the Son. It’s your choice to let His light shine through you or not. Think of one way to let his light overshadow any darkness people may send your way.

Prayer

Lord, you are the light of the world. You separated the light from the darkness. Often, we let the darkness overcome us and drown out your light. We know that even though the darkness is great, your light shines brighter. Be with us on the dark days and the light days. Let us always put your light ahead of our own and the world. As always, your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. In your name, Amen.
