Nov 8 – No Agenda, Just Being
2:312 – No Agendas, Just Being

#faithbites #faithjourney agenda

I’m type A in most cases. I don’t want to go to a meeting unless there is an agenda. I went to know why I’m there, what we are going to accomplish, and any expectations there might be.

The other day my D2MC group got together to just talk about the Lord and our #faithjourney. But each one of us kept coming back to what are we trying to accomplish when we gather. How do we know when and if we are successful.

Sometimes, we just need to be. Let’s get together hang out, talk, and just enjoy each other’s company. When you dont have any expectations or agendas, you actually make space for the Holy Spirit to work. Just being present with each other is enough. Enjoy it.

Scripture

  • For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.” – Matthew 18:20
  • Not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near- Hebrews 10:25
  • Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor. – Roman’s 12:10
Reflection

Meeting together. Showing each other honor and affection. Encouraging one another. These are all part of Jesus’s second commandment to Love Your Neighbor. When we do this Jesus is present.

The scriptures don’t say have a list of 10 tasks, 5 learning objectives, and two assessments each time you meet. Sure there are times when you need to get things done. But, if we just hang out and share who we are, Jesus will be present. That space we are making helps build new relationships. You may not even talk about your faith, but it will be present. You wre laying the solid foundation for a relationship that will build overtime. Your faith will come to the surface when the time is right.

The key to all of this is to let it happen. Have a beer and talk about sports. Play a board game and talk about superhero shows. Eat some tacos and tall about a TV show. Don’t worry about what comes next, just be present. God works without you knowing his agenda.

Challenge

Invite someone for a coffee or a drink. Just be neighborly. Dont worry about what will make it a success or a failure. Just be in the moment and enjoy each others company. God will be there.

Prayer

Gracious God, thank you for always being present in our lives. We often think we have to plan out every activity and every encounter. We make ourselves believe that if there isnt an agenda or some expectation, we’ve wasted our time. Help us to remember that there is joy in just hanging out and being present. Remind us that even if we arent trying to accomplish something, you are present and this time is well spent. You are with us, guiding us, and helping us. Calm our minds and allow us to make space for you to work. In your gracious name, Amen.
