2:280 – Church Is Not Like A Choir
#faithbites #faithjourney choir
Those who know me, know I love to sing and dance. But I can’t carry a tune in a bucket and I dance to the music in my head, it just isn’t the same as what everyone else hears.
I’ve been asked to join the men’s choir at church a few times and said they don’t want me. Trust me, I stink at singing and dont want to ruin the sound.
Then I thought and realized most people think joining or going to church is like joining a professional choir. You have to sing the right notes, dress on uniform, and perform perfectly every performance. Or in other terms, be sinless, perfect, believe everything fully, not question anything, and look the part.
Here’s the kicker: We are all broken. We all sin and guess what, none of us have it together. What we do have is our identity as a Child of God. He gives it to us freely, no need to be a Grammy award winning singer to apply
Scripture
- he predestined us for adoption to sonship through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will— Ephesians 1:5
- Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.” – Jeremiah 1:5
Reflection
There you have it. We were predestined to be prophets. He knew us in our mother’s womb. All of these things happened without our action, without obeying, or anything. He gave us the identity of a child of God.
We need to lower the bar for entry. There is no need to check boxes, obey the law, or anything. But, once you understand you are a child of God, then you want to obey our father.
So to go back to choir. This would be joining a intro choir.thst is focused on teaching and growing. They build me to sing and know I’m a singer first. It’s not expecting me to be ready to perform on Broadway without my first lesson.
Remember, we are all broken, all sinners, all children of God.
Challenge
How can you lower the bar for others to join the kingdom of God. What can you do to help show your identity first, which is a gift from God, to those outside?
Prayer
Father, We are all your children and thank you. Just like children we are rebellious and make mistakes, but you love us. We pray that all your children know that your love and their identity as your child comes before anything else. Being in your kingdom outweighs being in a church or checking off boxes. Help all of your children claim their identity and grow through you. In Jesus name, Amen.
