2:279 – Superhero Jesus

This faithbite inspired by my eldest. She, like me, loves Superheros. This was a fitting topic with Joker coming out, Batwoman starting tonight, and all the superhero shows starting this week. Why do we like them? We are looking for a savior. Someone to save us, someone who is more powerful than any villain. The thing is, we already have that hero.

Jesus came to defeat evil. He fought Satan, defeated death, and saved our eternal souls. No superhero could ever top that. We just need to remember who our hero is.

Scripture

• He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world. – 1 John 2:2
• For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. – Romans 3:23-24

Reflection

I was looking for scripture and found a great page that had 20 reasons why Jesus is better than a superhero. https://www.beliefnet.com/ilovejesus/features/20-reasons-jesus-is-the-true-superhero.aspx. from not having kryptonite (weakness) to no pride to fighting evil to making no mistakes.

Christ is the perfect superhero. We wants to save us, and has saved us, without us needing to do anything. All we have to do is be faithful.

Challenge

Are you looking for a savior? Let’s not look to money or idols. Christ did it for us. We are God’s children no matter what. All we have to do is recognize our identity in God.

Prayer

Lord, you have us the strongest most perfect superhero in Jesus. Let us look to him to save us and as a role model. Nothing on this earth or in fantasy can come close to him. Remind us when we stray that we have a savior. While the world may try to get us off course, you will always course correct us. In your name, Amen.
