2:272 – Serving Saves Others
#faithbites #faithjourney #redletterchallenge serving
You may be looking at this picture and see it says day 3. Today is actually day 20, half way point, and the beginning of the Serving week.
For some serving is because they have too. It could be court ordered community service, school ordered, work ordered, or belief ordered. For others, like me, service is something we get the privilege of doing as it fills up our tank.
As we get going in the serving week, remember, serving others won’t get you salvation. There is nothing you can do to get salvation if you believe in Jesus. You are given an identity from the Father and are saved. No work needed.
We serve because God made us in his image and he serves.
Scripture
- In all things I have shown you that by working hard in this way we must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he himself said, βIt is more blessed to give than to receive.ββ – Acts 20:35
- For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, so that no one may boast. – Ephesians 2:8-9
Reflection
I won’t spend a lot of time rehashing today. We are saved through Grace and we serve because we are are fulfilled through it. I be love to serve. When we do something because we want to rather than because we have to, focus changes. Also think about who you are serving. Our service may not save us, but it may very well save someone else.
This week let’s dive into serving as something that fills our tank. That it’s on the same level as basic physical food. We are party of a serving community together.
Challenge
Easy one tonight. Write down how you serve. It can be anything from you, to home, to community, to country, to church, anything. Then write down why you do it. It may open your mind to God’s plan.
Prayer
Gracious God, thank you for building service into out DNA. Remind us that this service isn’t to earn point or to get into heaven. Jesus already did that. This service will help others see you, learn about you, and help them. Help us let our light shine in very thing we do. In your name, Amen.
