September 28 – God’s Not Done With Me

2:271 – God’s Not Done With Me

#faithbites #faithjourney #redletterchallenge #D2MC Done

In past #faithbites, we’ve talked about how some people look like they have this stuff together. They have a great Facebook profile, go to church, dress nice, etc etc. Then we feel bad because we aren’t up to snuff. And if you remember that discussion, everyone is a big ole hot mess. No one has it together.

During our immersion today, I learned something about identity. Our identity doesn’t come from Church, it doesn’t come from obeying the Law, it doesn’t come from any of these things. We are created as a son or daughter by God the father. That’s it. No works, no beliefs, no nothing. By birth we are chosen by God. That’s pretty awesome. Our identity is through him.

As a Dad, he wants us to grow and be better. That can come in many many different forms. As we are walking those paths, we will fail to obey what’s best for us. But like a good dad, he talks to us, forgives us, and helps us continue.

God is an ever present father. Are you ready to accept your identity has a child of God? Are you ready to know he wants you to grow and prosper?

Scripture

  • You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit and that your fruit should abide, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name, he may give it to you. – John 15:16
  • “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied. – Matthew 5:6
  • “Go now and leave your life of Sin” – John 8:11

Reflection

Jesus wants us to follow him. God wants us to grow. This thirst for righteousness is our spiritual growth. Through this challenge and word, we leave sin behind and are satisfied.

We will never fully leave sin behind, just as our kids will always make mistakes. Yet, we learn, and try not to make those mistakes again.

The biggest thing is even if (and when) our kids mess up, they are still our kids. We love them. God is above any church or doctrine. He has given you the identity of child and wants you in his house and life.

Challenge

Prayer

Do you identity as a child of God? Will you claim your co-inheritance? If so, remember that this is who you are by birth. Your father loves you and wants a relationship with him. Nothing you do will change make him change that identity. Take time today, to talk to your father and begin growing with him.

Almighty Lord, you have called us your children. You love us, nurture us, and want a relationship with us. At the same time, you want us to prosper. Be with those who know you as their father and nurture that relationship. Be with those who think they have to obey to claim that identity. Remind them, that you chose them first and will be with them always. Help us to remember that as a father, you will never leave us. In your name, Amen.
