2:221 – A Phone Call With God

The 1989 movie, Dead Poet’s Society, is one of my favorites. One of my favorite scenes is toward the end when the students are in assembly. There is a phone ringing and a boy says it’s God calling. Why God was supposedly was calling is relevant to the moviebut not here. I do recommend watching the movie.

That scene lasts with me as I wonder how much could be accomplished with one phone call from God. A video call would be even better, but beggars can’t be choosers.

Imagine talking to your savior, your God, on the phone. The questions you could ask, the direction you could receive, and the confirmation that what you believe is right.

While we don’t have a bat phone to God in that way, we do have prayer. It’s sometimes harder to hear God’s voice on the other line, but he’s there. His voice comes out loudest in his Word and his actions.

Reflection

We have talked about the power of prayer on countless occasions. Sometimes we wonder if God hears them. In all three of our verses, we see that God does indeed hear our pleas and prayers. He is attentive to our needs.

This direct line to God is never disconnected, never staticy, and your phone never runs out of power. If you believe in him and speak to Him, he listens.

Our God, through Christ, is a personal God. He listens to us at all hours of the day or night. We don’t have to be perfect in our words. We can ramble or be silent but when we call, he answers.

Charge

God is ready for our call. Are you ready to pick up the phone? No change or phone plan needed. Just pick up your prayer line and speak. He is there.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, thank you for the direct line to you and God, the father. We don’t need to go through anyone else to talk to you. You always answer the phone and listen to us. Remind to always call you no matter what is in our mind. You will never hang up and always speak your truth. In your name, Amen.
