July 5 – I Deserve A Reward
2:186 – I Deserve A Reward

#faithbites #faithjourney reward

When. You have a challenging day or task, do you bribe yourself with a reward? One more page of my paper then a snack. Fold two loads of laundry then watch a show. Stressful day, have a beer.

We try to find rewards to break the monotony of life and help us get through tough times.

The thing is, are these rewards helpful or just momentary breaks? When we eat a candy bar, have a beer, watch a show, are we really relaxing or just trying to fill a need that could be filled elsewhere? Maybe what we are doing isn’t what we should be? Maybe we should be on a different path than the one we are one.

Enjoying life is awesome. Let’s just make sure the rewards we are giving ourselves point is in the right direction.

Scripture
  • Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving
Reflection

We try to give ourselves many earthly rewards. Some are bribes to keep us going down the path others are rewards for a job well done.

When we live in Christ and for Christ, we know what our inheritance will be. We are doing this work for the future and for his plan. While life may be challenging, salvation and eternal life in Christ is our reward.

Now, enjoying life is good. Finding motivation to keep you going is helpful. Just remember what the greatest motivation is. Our faith in Christ makes us want to be more like him and do even more works.

Charge

Hard day at work? Challenge in staying motivated? Instead of turning to an unhealthy snack, turn to pray. He will motivate you. And yes, the occasional junk food is good as a supplement but not the main course of faith.

Prayer

Lord, thank you for the challenges and opportunities you give us. Some days are harder than others. Many times we bribe ourselves to keep going. Remind us that all the strength, rest, and energy we need is from you. Help us balance the earthy rewards with the challenges and always keep focused on you. In your name, Amen.
