June 3 – I Haven’t Got It All Figured Out Just Yet
2:154 – I Haven’t Got It All Figured Out Just Yet.

On my way to work, I decided to listen to music instead of a podcast. An Alanis Morissette song came on. I then listened to most of her Jagged Little Pill Album. A lyric that really came home is “I Haven’t got It All Figured Out Just Yet”.

Life is full of mystery. When I was a kid, I thought by this age, I’d know who I was, what I’m supposed to do, and the answer to Life, The Universe, And Everything, but I don’t. I think I know less than I did when I was younger.

After that song was over, You Learn, came on. From that song, this lyric stood out

You live you learn, you love you learn
You cry you learn, you lose you learn
You bleed you learn, you scream you learn

Or in other words, while we don’t have it all figured out just yet, we learn a bit more everyday through the challenges and opportunities God puts before us.

We just need to be open to learning.

Scripture
  • Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.Philippians 4:9
  • I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go;
I will counsel you with my loving eye on you.Psalm 32:8
Reflection

Both of our verses talk about God teaching us. He doesn’t expect us to be perfect. In fact, he knows we aren’t, and he sent his son to bridge that gap.

We need to take all of the experiences we have an learn from it. What is the lesson he wants us to learn. What warms my heart, is that even though we will have challenges and opportunities, God counsels us with his loving eye.

We are never alone or foresaken, even when we haven’t got it figured out. God puts people and things in our path to help us learn and get closer to his understanding. Why did those song come on my radio today? Maybe he wanted me to share that we all learn and haven’t figured it out just yet. But we may through him.

Charge

Have you made a plan for yourself. You will graduate by x year. Be married by y year, have 2.4 kids, a house, and z dollars in the bank. Maybe that’s all coming to pass or maybe you are 50 and still don’t know what you want to do with your life. Ask your father. He will give you opportunities to learn.

Prayer

God, thank you for keeping your loving eye on us. Remind us that even though the world says we need to have it all figured out, you are here to tell is otherwise. You sill help us as we learn about you and your plan for us. Give us the strength to live in your word and your guidance to find out who you, not the world, wants us to be. In your gracious name, Amen.
