March 23 – Hold On To These Moments As They Pass

2:82 – Hold On To These Moments As They Pass

#faithbites #faithjourney hold

And it’s been a long December and there’s reason to believe
Maybe this year will be better than the last
I can’t remember all the times I tried to tell my myself
To hold on to these moments as they pass

“A Long December” – The Counting Crows

I know I’ve written about this concept before, but I wanted to dive into it again. We have so many memories and experiences to cherish, love, and share. We also get so caught up in the day to day and what comes next, that we don’t stop to celebrate the little victories or moments as they pass.

Tickling your kids, cooking lasagna with your niece, cuddling a distraught child, watching TV, swinging in the back yard, so many things to remember and cherish. As we approach 10 years that dad has been gone, I try to hold on to the moments we had and make sure my kids have moments with me, they will remember

Maybe, I don’t get done what I wanted to so I could make one more memory. While I’m behind in my work, it’s ok, they have a forever gift.

Scripture

  • “But Mary treasured up all these things, pondering them in her heart.” – Luke 2:19
  •  “Praise the LORD. I will extol the LORD with all my heart in the council of the upright and in the assembly. 2 Great are the works of the LORD; they are pondered by all who delight in them.” – Psalm 111:1-2
  • “I remember to think about the many things you did in years gone by. Then I lift my hands in prayer, because my soul is a desert, thirsty for water from you.” – Psalm 145:5

Reflection

In all three of our verses, we see the author/subject of the verse remembering everything that the Lord has done. Pondering his works, his action, and keeping them close to your hearts, is what the Lord wants us to do.

We don’t see major miracles as they are described in the Bible. We have to look a little harder. But miracles still happen. It’s up to us to treasure and cherish then. Thank the Lord for them and hold on.

Many if my memories with my nieces would have happened with God’s interventions in medicine. My kids probably wouldn’t be here either. So every memory, even the ones when I wish they weren’t driving me crazy, are precious. Let’s hold on.

Charge

Are you just passing the time waiting for the next big thing? Look at all the small moments that may be passing you buy. Take just a couple of minutes to cherish them and commit them to memory. Then you can savor forever and not have the fog of “Did that really happen”

Prayer

Almighty Father, you have given us so many things. Let us rejoice in all the events you give us from the small daily occurrences to the once in a lifetime masterpieces. For they are all precious and should be cherished. Help us to hold on before they are gone. In your heavenly name, Amen.
