March 17 – Freedom is From The Lord

2:75 – Freedom is From The Lord

#faithbites #faithjourney freedom

Normally when I sit down to write #faithbites, it’s because of something I experienced during the day. Then I find scripture to help me explain and relate that event. Today was different. Not much happened today, been writing most of the day, do I decided to finds random scripture generator. It took a couple of rolls but it landed on 2 Corinthians 3:17 – Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.

When I started to think about that, I saw how it relates to my life. The Lord gave us free will. He gave us His Word, His Son, and promised us all inheritance that Christ would have. That is pretty freeing.

I was starting to get a little down as I’m home alone. The guilt of having the house to myself. The knowledge that there are many things that I I could be doing. And the wondering if I am going to disappoint someone. But then the word was there and I felt a bit of peace. A sense of freedom knowing that if I give it to the Lord, he will set me free.

Do you feel free when the Lord is near?

Scripture

  • Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. – 2 Corinthians 3:17
  •  It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery. – Galatians 5:1
  • The righteous cry out, and the LORD hears them; he delivers them from all their troubles. – Psalm 34:17

Reflection

The Lord is in us, around us, and through us. If freedom is everywhere he is, then we are always free. The Galatians scripture hits home in two fronts. The first is that we shouldn’t be taken by the sins and temptations of the world as that is akin to being a slave. The second is Jesus gave his life for us to be free. Going into that temptation seems like throwing that gift away. The good thing is the Lord always forgives. He grants us peace and forgiveness even if we don’t deserve it.

We live in a world where hate is on the news all the time. Where bad things happen to good people. We can choice to give into that hate and be shackled to sin or we can chose to relish and love the freedom that God has given us.

It isn’t easy to be free through Christ. But always know, as the Psalm says, when we cry out, he will protect us.

Remember as the weight of the world gets you down, that we are free.

Charge

You are free. Excerise that freedom through sharing the Lord, enjoying the gifts he gives, and being thankful for all thing and all those around you.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, thank you for your freeing spirit. Help us to know that you are in us and around us. Remind us that you gave your life for us to be free. Stir in us a feeling of gratitude, love, and admiration for being free and having free will. Let us never forget the sacrifice made for our freedom. Amen
