2:52 – Truth? You Can’t Handle the Truth
#faithbites #faithjourney truth
What is Truth? Merriam-Webster’s Dictionary defines truth as : the body of real things, events, and facts: Actuality. In the era of fake news being anything from things that are fake to those that don’t agree with your point of view, to people not believing in science, to any website claiming to be the truth, it’s hard to know what is real.
My grandma used to tell me there are three sides to every story: Your’s, Mine, and the Truth. For those of you who know me, know I enjoy having political, philosophical, and religious debates. I enjoy learning and growing with others. What I am finding more and more, is the old two sides and the truth isn’t believed. I, and I believe I am pretty knowledgeable about research, am having a harder and harder time determining what sources are true, what are half truths, and what are blatant lies.
In many cases, the desire to be right, trumps the need to be correct. I hope that through my research, study, and faith, I am led to the truth in everything. I hope that you are as well.
Scripture
These are the things you shall do:
Speak each man the truth to his neighbor;
Give judgment in your gates for truth, justice, and peace; – Zechariah 816
- Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth. – John 17:17
- Guide me in your truth and teach me,
for you are God my Savior,
and my hope is in you all day long. – Psalm 25:5
Reflection
Truth is what I want to hear and what I want to share. We should strive for this in everything we do. Our Lord tells us that his word is truth, he guides us in truth, and we should always speak truth to others.
Why is this such a difficult concept? As I mentioned earlier, the truth is being twisted everyday. The idea that if you aren’t fore something you are against it is prevalent. There is no middle ground. Then facts and figures are twisted one way or another to make a point.
I know this blog won’t make the truth be everywhere. It won’t change hearts and minds towards learning and speaking the truth. What it will do is help to remind me, and hopefully others, that there is one truth. God is our father, our light and through his son Jesus we are saved. With that truth in mind, we can be set free.
Charge
It’s hard to speak the truth when you are unsure of the truth. When you don’t know, say you don’t know. When you disagree, disagree with kindness. If you are lost, remember that Jesus is the Truth.
Prayer
Dear Lord, help all of us to hear your truth. Allow us to know what you say is right and we should follow it. Guide us towards the truth that is in the world through you. Help us to always be kind when we disagree. Remind us that disagreement doesn’t mean that facts are wrong, we can disagree and it is ok. Let us always turn to you. In your name, Amen.
