248 – Action Pack Pup or Regular Pup?

#faithbites #faithjourney Action

“Ready for Action, Ryder Sir”. This is a common refrain on my youngest’s favorite show: Paw Patrol. If you have never watched this cartoon, it’s about six main pups (I didn’t forget about Everest and Tracker) who live with a young adult named Ryder who save Aventure Bay. Each of the pups has a specific job: Chase (Police), Marshall (Fire), Zuma (Water), Skye (Sky/Flight), Rubble (Construction), Rocky (Recycling/Fixing).  While the show is fun, what sells it is the toys. There are pups with different costumes, vehicles, playsets and more. This gets me to the main point. In the toys, there are two main types. Those that have action packs (you push a button and tools or something come out) and regular pups (no special tools but awesome to play with).

My youngest is now obsessed with the action pack pups. That is all she wants to play with. Forget the other pups she has. Don’t get me wrong, she loves the regular pups and things they are cool but wants to play with the pups with tools and buttons.

Are you a person of action or a regular person?

Scripture on Action
  • What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him? If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and filled,” without giving them the things needed for the body, what good is that? So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead. – James 2:14-17
  • But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. – James 1:22
Reflection

Our God is a God of action and we should emulate himl. We can say good words, send warm wishes, but if we don’t act, then we haven’t completed our mission. We are still good people, we still want to help, but we have failed. Like those pups without tools, they are nice to look at and fun, but not as awesome as the action pups.

The challenge in life is to take the words and feelings and turn them into actions. Help those who want and need the help. Become a Christian of action.

As they say in Paw Patrol: No Job is Too Big, No Pup is Too Small. You can accomplish all things through he who strengthens us. (Philippians 4:13)

Charge

Think about your interactions with people. How do you show you are a Christian of Action? What activities do you participate, people you help, or things you do that serve his mission for you? Are you a sharer of words or actions without intent (i.e going to church just to check a box)? Take time to make one new action step this week.  You will be surprised how much that impacts those around you.

Lord, let me in action. I know you love me no matter what as long as I believe. Help me to use those gifts to serve you always.
