February 10 – Is Jesus Real?

Today’s lesson: Is Jesus Real?

I know this is a provocative question. Some say “Yes”, without a second thought. Others say “no”, without a second thought. Still, others are confused. Even some say, “I just don’t know”.

During the Super Bowl, I had a conversation about faith and Jesus. The person I was talking to sounded like they wanted to believe but their brain was getting in the way of their heart and faith. They said, “What is Jesus was a cult leader like David Koresh”? What if we were all following a cult and not the true God. The person said everytime they want to believe they have doubt. I’ve thought long and hard about that. I had that doubt and sometimes do. But that is Sin and the devil trying to creep in.
Then I thought more.
If God made the universe, why wouldn’t he be able to become flesh? Why wouldn’t he be able to be a spirit? Why wouldn’t he able to do everything that is said in the book? As a science-minded person, science actually reaffirms God rather than discredit it. If God could do all of this, why couldn’t he make the big bang? All of the patterns in nature (Fibonacci for instance) can’t be random.

“For to us a child is born,
to us a son is given,
and the government will be on his shoulders.
And he will be called
    Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace” – Isaiah 9:6

“Jesus answered: “Don’t you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?” – John 14:9

A son who is Mighty God, Everlasting Father. Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. Many moons ago, I took a humanities class and we discussed believing in God vs if God exists. It’s called Pascal’s Wager It’s fascinating. in three of the four scenarios (You believe in God and he exists, you believe in God and he doesn’t exist, you don’t believe in God and he doesn’t exist, you are fine. Only when you don’t believe in God and he does exist is there a problem.
Here’s the thing, why let sin or doubt cloud your mind. If you can’t explain everything in the world, then guess what, God is there. And if God could do all that, why couldn’t he come in flesh.

Do you believe that Jesus is God and has come in the flesh? That he died for your sins and through him, you are saved? It’s not easy. It’s not popular, to both believe and act as he wanted us too.

I am willing to believe and fight again the sin and doubt.
