February 3 – Evolving Thoughts

Today’s lesson in on allowing yourself to evolve your thoughts and positions.

Yesterday I posted in Facebook how I saw two different people reacting vastly different to an event in the news. One seemed to be very compassionate while the other seemed to be advocating physical violence against a criminal. I called that out as being tribal and part of how our country can’t even discuss anything without fighting and going to camps.

The replies to that post, said I was wrong. It wasn’t tribal. That I wasn’t seen the whole picture. After more comments, I realized that my opinion was closed by previous knowledge of the people and their politics. I had taken something not political, something not divisive, and made it an issues. I had clouded the situation all together.

“Fools find no pleasure in understanding
but delight in airing their own opinions” – Proverbs 18:2

Trust in the Lord with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;” Proverbs 3:5

Too often, we are not open to evolving out thoughts. We are stuck in our ways. We want to point out the errors in others thoughts. I don’t want to be a fool. I want to be educated. I trust in the Lord, to surround me with friends to help me learn and change my thoughts. I can not lean only on my own knowledge.

What was wonderful, was a friend pointing out t these two friends were not being tribal but rather were experience different stages of emotions. I thank them and others for that.

Do you rely on the Lord for helping with your thoughts? Are you willing to be open to evolving thoughts?

I am.
