4:262 – Keep Your Sparkle Switch On!
#faithbites #faithjourney sparkle
Setting
Last night, we watched the JoJo Siwa J-Team movie. Yes, I wasn’t the audience for it, but it was cute and my youngest liked it. If you don’t know JoJo, she is a singer, songwriter, Youtube personality and is all about the glitter. She wears big bows, sequins, and more. The plot of the movie was her new dance teacher wanted her to turn off her sparkle switch and fit in with everyone else. Simple plot, but something we can all learn from.
Personally, I have been asked to dim my sparkle both indirectly and directly. I hate to admit it, but I’ve done it often to fit in, not cause waves, and make everyone happy. I’m trying to find my switch and keep it always in the on position.
Today’s Questions: Have you been asked to turn off your sparkle switch? What can you do to keep the uniqueness that is you and share it?
Scripture
- Romans 12:2 – 2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.
- 2 Timothy 3:12 – Indeed, all who desire to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted,
- 1 Peter 1:14 – As obedient children, do not be conformed to the passions of your former ignorance,
Reflection
God made us unique and special. When someone tells us to turn off our sparkle switch, it’s because either they want us to fit in or we are outshining them. We don’t sparkle to overshadow others but to be who God made us. We are told by God specifically not to conform to this word and that we will be persecuted for it. First Peter tells us to be obedient to God and not our former ignorance. Don’t worry about being “a freak” or something else. Be who God intended you to be.
I am struggling with this as I need to find a way back to who I was before all of this stress, confusion, pain, and whatever else is going on. I know Jesus is the answer and his Word is my guide. It’s just hard (yes this is an excuse) after all of this stuff that has taken me away from me. So now comes the hard work. Who am I? (A blessed child of God). How do I not let others either bring me down into their world or turn off my sparkle switch? That is a challenge but doesn’t get easier if we don’t work at it.
As we close, what are you specifically going to do to keep your sparkle intact? How can you stop others from pushing you down or forcing you to turn off your switch? I know I have to do it and can with the help of God.
Prayer
Father God, you made us for a specific reason with specific goals and talents. We have let the world turn off or dim our sparkle. Help us to remember who we are and why you made us. Remove the stresses and pressure to fit in. Heal our hearts and help us to be who you wanted us to be. We pray this in your name, Amen.
