4:223 – You Aren’t A Build-A-Bear
#faithbites #faithjourneying build-a-bear
Setting
Lately, I have been thinking a lot about how God made me who I am. If it’s letting my freak flag fly, not conforming to this world, or looking at my whole body of work, I am a unique creature. there is only one Sol and will never be another like him. (I know most of you are thankful for that. Ha). It is hard though, when we don’t conform to the world and are seen as different.
There is a new song on the radio by Bella Poarch called, “Build a B” and the B is another term for a female dog. I don’t like that word and at first it turned me off, but when I listened to the lyrics it hit home. Here are a couple of the lyrics, “I’m filled with flaws and attitude So if you need perfect, I’m not built for you” or “Bob the Builder broke my heart Told me I need fixing Said that I’m just nuts and bolts Lot of parts were missing Curvy like a cursive font Virgin and a vixen That’s the kind of girl he wants But he forgot This ain’t Build a B*tch You don’t get to pick and choose”. Sorry about the language, but it brings it home. God made us who we are. We don’t get to pick and chose, nor do others. We have to embrace who we are!
Today’s Questions: Are you trying to pick and chose who you are? Are you trying to force others to fit into a mold? What can we do to focus on the uniqueness that God put into us?
Scripture
- Isaiah 64:8 – But now, O Lord, you are our Father; we are the clay, and you are our potter; we are all the work of your hand.
- Psalm 139:19 – For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb.
- 1 Corinthians 12:27 – Now you are the body of Christ and individually members of it.
Reflection
We are fearfully and wonderfully made. God knitted us in our mothers womb. That.may sound like build-a-bear when you select a heart and put it in, then tie up the thrrad. But we aren’t a copy of someone else. God didn’t just go to a shelf to build us. He formed us from his clay with specific purpose. While we are part of the body of Christ, we are all individual membwrs. That is an amazing feeling.
As we close, we don’t need to conform or let others pick and choose who we are. Likewise, we shouldn’t expect people to conform to a specific model and we can pick and choose who they are. In the end, it goes back to love!
Prayer
Father God, we love you and thank you for being who you are. You made us unique, special, and in your image. Lord, we aren’t a Build-A-Bear by your choice. You didn’t just pick pieces from a shelf to make us. We are all different. Help us to understand that we are different than everyone else and everyone else is different. Help us not try to put people in boxes or try to make them fit a mold. We pray for peace and acceptance for ourselves and for others. Let us focus on sharing your word, serving others, and loving. In your name, we pray, Amen.
