2:294 – Taste An Oreo
#faithbites #faithjourney taste
Last night, I wanted a snack before bed. I grabbed a couple of oreos, shoved them in my mouth, and kept on doing doing what I needed to do. As I did that, I realized I wasn’t tasting the oreo, I was just eating it. Then I stopped to concentrate and be mindful about the oreo. My mind went to a million different things as I was concentrating on the Oreo. But I could actually taste it.
I know, you are probably thinking Sol is a little crazy on this one. What does this have to do with faith? Actually, everything. Often, we are quoting scripture without looking at the full story or meaning. Sometimes we take a bite and use it how we want but don’t look at the content. Still yet, there are times when we sont give ourselves the chance to think and concentrate on it. Imagine how open we would be to the voice of God if we just listened and concentrated more on his Word.
Scripture
This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. – Joshua 1:8
Reflection
Today’s scripture encapsulates everything about the word. We don’t just taste it and let it go. We need to think about it, mediate on it, and put it into practice.
I am guilty as the next person is not putting the Word to heart. I am le as rning and trying but most of it is just a taste and not a meal. If I took the time to meditate on it and put it to my heart, it would be easier to follow .
The Lord has given us his Word. Just like an Oreo, if it sits on the shelf it isn’t doing any good. If you partake in it hist to get it down, you aren’t benefiting fully from it. We have a choice to truly be one with His Word.
Challenge
Make a promise to yourself to study the word. This could be one verse a day. It could be what ever works for you. Its not about rote memorization but rather understanding what it is saying to you.
Prayer
Lord, thank you as always for your word. Help us move from just tasting to truly understanding and living in your word. It is healthier and more beneficial than an Oreo. Give us the tools to make this part of our every day faith journey. We know your knowledge is power. Help us in this challenge. In your awesome name, Amen.
