August 29 – Just Say Yes
2:241 – Just Say Yes

#faithbites #faithjourney Yes

Why do we make life harder on ourselves? My youngest threw a fit for 20 minutes today because she wouldn’t put the clothes on we had set out. My eldest wouldn’t let her sister use her gel pens, but ended up letting her. My youngest is now jumping off the bed instead of going to bed.

Why don’t we just say yes? These rules aren’t that hard. Pee when you need to. Share your things. Be nice. Go to bed at bed time. We make life much harder than it needs to be.

Jesus took all the Jewish laws and the 10 commandments and boiled it down to two: Love God, Love people. Even with those, we don’t just say yes.

Scripture
  • For all the promises of God find their Yes in him. That is why it is through him that we utter our Amen to God for his glory.2 Corinthians 1:20
Reflection

Tonight’s reflection is simple: Say Yes To God. If we want our heavenly inheritance, if we want good things on Earth, if we want our wishes fulfilled, we must say yes to God.

This involves turning away from sin. Turning away for selfish desires and focusing on him.

I don’t he’s going to help my kids say yes quicker, but he is helping me deal with them. I’m learning that anger doesn’t help. It’s not part of Loving people. I’m not perfect at it. My youngest is still fighting to go to bed right now. Yes,from her would be easy, but it’s not going to happen.

But saying yes to God, over time it gets easier.

Charge

What does saying yes to God look like? It involved opening your heart, your eyes, and your ears. It involved making the hard choices and following him. It’s not always about instant gratification, but knowing his promises will be fulfilled in time.

Prayer

Lord, help us to say yes. We know your word is true and your promises will be fulfilled. Help us to follow your path. Give us patience with others who do not say yes to us or to you. We have these issues on both the Earthly and Heavenly planes. Help us to not be quick to anger but speedy with love and forgiveness. In your name, Amen.
