260 – Just Keep Swimming
#faithbites #faithjourney swimming
It’s been 260 days and I haven’t missed a #faithbite. (Well on January 4th I did, but I did two the next day). It’s one of those things that is part of my daily routine. Tonight as I was laying in bed saying my prayers, I realized I hadn’t done my #faithbite today. I was in bed, warm, tired, and the haze of sleep was about to take me over. Then I realized something, I committed to doing this and need to finish it. Or in the word’s of Dory, “Just Keep Swimming”.
We all have those times when it is dark or we are tired or we just don’t want to do something. We come up with a million reasons not to do it. But most of the times, we just keep swimming. For me, #faithbite is a commitment I made to my self and a friend of mine last year. It is helping me explore God’s word and hopefully helps you too. For others, it is out of a sense of family, loyalty, or whatever. But we keep doing it as God has a mission for us. So we keep on swimming.
Scripture on Continuing on the Path
- My feet have closely followed his steps;
I have kept to his way without turning aside. – Job 23:11 - You make known to me the path of life;
you will fill me with joy in your presence,
with eternal pleasures at your right hand. – Psalm 16:11 - Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. – 1 Peter 5:8
Reflection
Before I chose the scriptures for today, I had the scene from Finding Nemo where Dory sings “Just Keep Swimming”. In that scene, they are swimming through the darkest part of the ocean, they can see nothing. They just keep going. Then they see a light, but instead of it helping them, it’s a creature trying to eat them. That’s a pretty good representation of the enemy prowling around if you aren’t alert and of sober mind. Or if you are just swimming around and not following his footsteps.
The Lord works in mysterious ways. We are given a path, a purpose, and a mission through Christ. When we follow him closely with an alert and sober mind, we will have eternal pleasures. This is a great image for me to think about when times are tough.
So while I am extremely sleeping and just want to go to bed, the Holy Spirit said not quite yet. You’ve got a little more swimming to do before you go to sleep.
Charge
What tasks do you have to do for the Lord before you sleep? Is it prayer? Maybe it’s calling a loved one that you’ve been meaning too. Maybe it’s reading His word. Whatever that nagging feeling is telling you to do, it’s probably the Lord telling you to keep on swimming.
Lord, help me to keep your footsteps ever present in my sight. Let me know be devoured by the devils around me or the devils I cause.
