Martyrdom

Taking one for the team. Biting the bullet. Carrying the burden. Shouldering the Lion’s share. We have all been there before. I’ll take one the extra work. I’ll help out. I’ll wake up early and go to bed late.

We do it to help. We do it to feel better. We do it to help the others in our lives.

We sacrifice our time. We sacrifice our energy for others. We do it for everyone. It’s a huge part of being a parent.

Now, think about that feeling. How you helped someone. You took one for the team. But what does that mean for our love and the next one?

““If the world hates you, know that it has hated me before it hated you.” – John 15:18

“Indeed, all who desire to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted” – 2 Timothy 3:12

“Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse them” – Romans 12:14

Taking one for the team is one thing, taking it for your faith is something different. Being willing to be open. Be willing to share the word opens you up to being chastised, ridiculed, and torn down. But we are not to curse them. Jesus talks about those who follow him will be persecuted. You will give your life for your faith. Many disciples were killed for their belief in Christ.

Now think about the last time you took one for the team. What did you give to take one? Now think about what Jesus gave up for us. What his disciples gave for us. What are you willing to give up for your faith?

Are you a Martyr for your faith? Are you able to be respectful in being curses by others? Can you love those who curse you?

I am ready and willing (with the help of God)
