March 10 – Family Time

Today’s lesson is about family time and the power of family unity.

Last night, we were invited to spend the evening with close friends for their family night. At first, I thought we were intruding but they welcomed us with open arms. We cooked together, did a craft for the kid’s school, talked, the kids played, and had a great evening. Nothing was planned. Nothing was high tech, just fun. I was touched on two main points. The first, that we were considered family and welcomed into their house to share in family time. Second, sharing that connection, that time, that love, was amazing. This is how we are supposed to live with each other.

Sharing the love, sharing time, talent, treasure, and God. Nothing has to be planned out. Just hey, let’s get together and hang out. It was fulfilling for us everyone involved. The other major point was as much as this was for us, it sets a great example for our kids. We should be in communion with each other. We should share our bounty (homemade pizza and dessert ice cream pizza is always a hit) and enjoy each other.

Start children off on the way they should go,
and even when they are old they will not turn from it.” – Proverbs 22:6

“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” – Jon 34-35

God tells us to raise up our children right and they won’t turn from it. Having family time is a great tradition to start. Even better is inviting other in. Love people!. We are blessed to have great friends. We had very few friends prior to coming to worship. He has blessed us with friends and new family. Having that connection to others is amazing. Remember, this doesn’t have to be a major effort. It doesn’t have to be some crazy thing that costs money or puts anyone out.

Enjoy your family. Put away the TV, the phone, the tablet, and the other distractions. Talk, play, eat, love.

Are you willing to have a regular family night? Are you willing to invite others into your family night?

I am willing (with the help of God)
