4:272 – Infinite Diversity in Infinite Combinations
#faithbites #faithjourney infinite
Setting
When you say today’s title, you probably thought one of two things. First, the IDFC is a Vulcan philosophy from Star Trek. It means, ” The glory of creation is in its infinite diversity”. If you are not a Trekkie, you may have thought, “It takes all kinds”. I’ve had others say wouldn’t it be boring if we were all the same. No matter if you are letting your freak flag fly, keeping your sparkle shining, or just learning about others, our diversity is what makes us strong.
Our God is infinite in power and amazes us every day with what he has done. As humans, we try to silo and box things to better understand them. Imagine if we were able to look at the infinite number of combinations of things that God has done and just sit in awe.
Today’s Questions: How do you embrace all that God has done? What does the IDIC mean to you?
Scripture
- Genesis 1:! – In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
- Revelation 7:9-10 – After this I looked, and behold, a great multitude that no one could number, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, with palm branches in their hands, and crying out with a loud voice, “Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!”
- Colossians 1:16-17 – For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together.
- Romans 12:16 – Live in harmony with one another. Do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly. Never be wise in your own sight.
Reflection
From the beginning of creation until now, we see God’s power. He created EVERYTHING and loves all of his creations. In the end, we see people from every nation crying out in one voice that salvation belongs to our God. How epic of an image is that. Our God is powerful indeed.
We also see that God wants us to love one another (John 15:12) regardless of who they are, live in harmony with each other (Romans 12:16), and strive to be one people under Christ (Colossians 3:11). This is the world I want to live in. The final point is not only is it living together but appreciating the vast diversity of all things in all places. It’s hard to comprehend at times as sometimes there are things that seem odd, strange, or we just don’t get. All we need to do is listen, learn, ask questions, and appreciate it. That’s how we fulfill God’s plan and the IDIC. (But we know which one is more important 🙂 ).
As we close, remember that God’s infinite power is shown in the diversity of combinations
.Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank you for making us all unique. We praise you for your gifts, for your love of us, and for giving us so much to experience and appreciate. We pray that you warm our hearts, open our minds, and prepare us to explore everything that you have to offer. Keep us safe and ready to be in a world of infinite diversity in infinite combinations.
