4:25- What Are You Thirsty and Hungry For?
#faithbites #faithjourney thirsty
Setting
I was craving a nice cup of coffee as I was thirsty. Do I need a cup of coffee? No, but I really want one. It’s funny because I searched for the verse of the day and God never fails to deliver. He told me that he satisfies the thirsty and fills the hungry with good things. Let’s think about that for a minute. What are we hungry and thirsty for? And no, we are talking about a burger, fries, and a coke. (Though that would be good now). We are talking about our spiritual needs and desires. We often want what isn’t given because it’s not good for us or not in the plans. Let us ask God for what we need and he will answer!
Today’s Questions: What are you hungry and thirsty for? Is God meeting your needs? Is he meeting your wants? Do you know the difference?
Scripture
- Psalm 107:9 – For he satisfies the thirsty and fills the hungry with good things.
- John 7:37-39 – 37 On the last and greatest day of the festival, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, “Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink. 38 Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.”39 By this he meant the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were later to receive. Up to that time the Spirit had not been given, since Jesus had not yet been glorified.
- Matthew 5:6 – Blessed are those who hunger and htirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.
Reflection
We are hungry and thirsty for things for so many things. I know I want material things and immaterial things and would do just about anything to get them. I pray daily and ask for God to quench my thirst. What I’ve learned is I’m thirsty when I look past God and try to get something that I don’t need. This is often because I try to fill my godhole will things and not HIM.
What gives me hope is God’s word. He tells me over and over that, I will be filled and my thirst took away. Just like in all things, I need to recognize those gifts so that I can eat and drink them. When I keep looking for other stuff and miss out on what he has given me, I have a hunger that can never be filled; a thirst that can never be quenched. Today’s #faithbites is a good reminder that he gives everything we need.
As we close, think deeply about your hunger and your thirst. Align it with God’s plan and he will always provide.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, thank you for taking away our hunger and thirst. You don’t only take it away, you fulfill it and help us to be satisfied. We are going through so many changes that we are looking for answers. We hunger for your help and thirst for solutions to our problems. Today, we pray that you provide answers and ways to fill those needs that we have and tell us which of our wants match your goals and which do not. Help us always be satisfied with what you provide. In your name, Amen.
