4:204 – Life Gets In The Way of Living

A shot in the back the day of a going away party. Doing laundry instead of going through the park. Mowing the lawn instead of playing. Working instead of vacation. Swimming with the kids in relay races and knowing I will pay in pain later. These are just a few of the choices I’ve made in the past couple of days. I’m starting to realize that life is getting in the way of living. I know that this is #adulting but sometimes it seems like too much. My biggest one is taking me time instead of sleeping. I know, robbing Peter to pay Paul.
its not easy to balance the stuff we have to do versus the stuff we get to do versus the stuff we want to do. This is a challenge that we all have. Just lately, I feel I’m making the wrong choices. How about you?
Today’s Questions: What can you do to live life rather than life living you? How can your relation with Jesus help you make better decisions?
Scripture
- Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, – Acts 2:46
- The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full. – John 10:10
- Behold, what I have seen to be good and fitting is to eat and drink and find enjoyment in all the toil with which one toils under the sun the few days of his life that God has given him, for this is his lot. – Ecclesiastes 5:18
Reflection
Jesus came to free us from Sin and have eternal life in Him. We are told to rejoice, eat, drink, and be merry. In Ecclesiastes, we see that we should enjoy our toil and rejoice. This verse flips the question of have to vs get to vs want to. If we see the purpose of our toil and how it looks to what we want and get to do, it changes the equiation.
im a realist and know it’s not always easy to see that mowing the grass leads to good things. But when you are done you have a nice lawn that you can enjoy. On the flip side, you could look at it as a chore and if you don’t do it you have a horrible lawn and make property values go down. (Just kidding).
I’m far from perfect in this. I seek God’s guidance on what to say no to and what to change my attitude about. Sometimes it’s easy, but all the time it takes help. We need to have a support system who trusts us and loves us to help. We can’t do it alone.
As we close, remember life is a gift from God. It won’t be easy but through him we get to experience all things. We need to seek his guidance on what and when we choose to do things. With his help, we will get better and truly love the life he wants us to.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, we pray for balance and help in making good choices. Help us to live life rather than have life run us around we seek your guidance and counsel so that we don’t feel behind the eight ball in all that we do. Let us enjoy the bounty and wonds that you provide. In your name, Amen.
