4:203 – Why Are We Doing What We Are Doing?
#faithbites #faithjourney doing
Setting
A few times throughout the year, I question why I am doing what I’m doing. This includes writing #faithbites and just being involved in the activities I am involved in. Today I went back to look at the very first #faithbites, While I remember the purpose of writing, I forgot the verse that started it all: Isaiah 43:18-19. The verse is about God doing a new thing and that is Christ Jesus. During Christmas we say, Jesus is the reason for the season. What if we said we do what we do because of Jesus. How would that change our lives?
Today’s Questions: Do you ask yourself why you do what you are doing? Do you check that answer against What Would Jesus Do? If not, should you?
Scripture
- Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland”Isaiah 43:18-19
- 22 But don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves. – James 1:22
Reflection
Two main takeaways here. First, even God did a new thing when we saw something wasn’t working. He loved us so much, he gave his Son to make sure we were forgiven and reconnected. If God changes what he is doing, should we to have better results? Second, we need to do the work. If we look at what we are doing and it’s not according to Jesus’s way or we just aren’t doing anything, then we need to readjust. God tells us that we are fooling ourselves if we just listen and don’t do. It’s on each of us to check what Jesus would do and then do it.
As we close, don’t forget that we need to be doers. We also need to not just do, but do the right thing.
Prayer
Lord God, thank you for reminding us that we must be doers of the Word. You also show us that we have to make sure we are doing the right things at the right time. We pray for guidance as we determine what we need to continue, what we need to stop, and what we need to start. Help us get ourselves out of our own way and follow you fully. In your name, Amen.
