Setting

Once upon a time warp…

In a galaxy very, very, very,
very, far away there lived
a ruthless race of beings
known as… Spaceballs

Chapter Eleven

The evil leaders of Planet
Spaceball, having foolishly
squandered their precious
atmosphere, have devised a
secret plan to take every
breath of air away from
their peace-loving neighbor,
Planet Druidia.

Today is Princess Vespa’s
wedding day. Unbeknownst
to the princess but knownst
to us, danger lurks in the
stars above…

If you can read this, you
don’t need glasses.

You probably have thought Sol has gone off his rocker, if he had a rocker, to begin with. Why would he use the opening crawl from 1987’s Spaceballs to start a #faithbites. We can learn a lot from Spaceballs. Heck, we can learn a lot from life in general.

For those not familiar, Spaceballs is a spoof of Star Wars. Instead of Yoda, we have Yogurt. Instead of Darth Vader, we have Lord Helmet. We don’t get Han Solo or Chewbacca but get Lone Star and Barf. (He’s a MOG. Half man, half dog). The movie spoofs everything, but it can help us see that no matter how bad things are getting, the planet Druidia is going to lose its air, we can approach it with friendship and humor. They do say that laughter is the Best Medicine. So before we go combing the desert, or get our hair shot, onwith Spaceballs: The FaithBites.

Today’s Questions: What hard event or problem in your life have you approached with humor? How have friends helped you laugh and get through tough times?

Scripture:
  • Psalm 126:2 – Then our mouth was filled with laughter, and our tongue with shouts of joy; then they said among the nations, “The Lord has done great things for them.”
  • Job 5:22 – You will laugh at destruction and famine, and need not fear the wild animals.
Reflection

God wants us to laugh and to have friends along the way. We know he is in control and need to just take a back seat. If it was that easy, Sol, why aren’t we all doing it? The reason is, we try too hard. We don’t realize that God has given us everything we need. He has provided humor, friends, Jesus, The Holy Spirit, and everything we need. Just like Lonestar, he didn’t need the ring for the Swartz, he had it in him from the beginning. (Sorry for no spoiler warning, but I think 34 years is fair game).

As we close, remember that we can laugh, have fun, and tackle all obstacles in our way. We do it with Jesus who provides us friends, protection, and salvation.

Prayer

Lord God, thank you for humor and friends. Thank you for entertainment like Spaceballs, that shows us that we can laugh, be goofballs, and still succeed at life. You have our back, you know what we need to do, and how to do it. We ask that you keep us laughing, keep us surrounded by good friends, and provide a path for us to be successful. We pray all of this in your name. Amen.

Oh and by the way, if you could give us the passcode to our luggage, we forgot it again.
