4:138 – The Eyes Have It
#faithbites #faithjourney eyes
Setting
For the past two days, I have been suffering with migraines and vertigo. Don’t worry, the doctor doesn’t think it’s serious. It may be a side effect of my injection from Wednesday. Nevertheless, my eyes hurt. As I joked with a nurse, if I open my eyes my head hurts, if I close them I’m dizzy. It’s a loose loose. But, as they say, we got work to do ๐
I’ve always wondered if I had a chose on what sense to lose, what would I pick. I’m going to flip that around, I believe my sight would be the last one I’d want to loose. There is so much beauty in the world, and a picture is worth a thousand words. I’d hate to loose my eyese.
But, and here’s a big but, what are you using your eyes for? Is it to Glorify God or to glorify yourself?
Today’s Questions: Are you seeing what God wants you to? Are you seeing the world through the eyes of the world or through God’s eyes?
Scripture
- Matthew 6:22 – โThe eye is the lamp of the body. So, if your eye is healthy, your whole body will be full of light,
- Psalm 101:3 – I will not set before my eyes anything that is worthless. I hate the work of those who fall away; it shall not cling to me.
- Psalm 119:18 – Open my eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of your law.
Reflection
We should strive to keep our sight focused on God and what he sees. God doesn’t see us as worthless, sinners. He sees us as his children that he wants to love and protect. He gave us eyes to see how his law helps us rather than harms us. My kids often grumble when I tell them to do things. Sometimes it feels like I’m asking them to walk across a fire pit when it’s just to clean their room. God’s law is like that. He wants keep us safe, his wonderous law helps us do that.
The Psalm verse hits a nerve with me. Not that it’s bad, but rather I fall into the trap of setting my sites on things I think are important but in the long run it isn’t. We need to focus on the small moments that make relationships and advance God’s kingdom. I am like a dog with a bone sometimes and focus way too much on things that I think will make a difference in the long run but really don’t.
I know it’s not easy to always focus on the right things or see the best in people. But that is how God wants us. He gave us beautiful spirits to see his wonderous world. We just need to make sure we remove the filters form our eyes that see the bad, the other, and the enemy. His world is beautiful. Let’s use our eyes to see it as he intended.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, we pray that you help all of us, myself included, who are going through physical pain. Our senses are gifts from you and when one or more of them are impaired, it affects our ability to see the world the way you want us to. Today, we pray that you help us to see the world the way you want and to be spiritually open to what we see. We pray that you take away the filters and junk that cover our eyes and help us to be clean as snow, forgiven children, ready to work for you. We pray all of this in your name, Amen.
