Nov 30 – It’s Ok To Be Sad
3:335 – It’s Ok To Be Sad

#faithbites #faithjourney sad

Setting

I’m laying ony bed in pain, listen to music, and helping my daughter with homework. It’s not a bad day but I’m just sad. I have some reasons but just being sad. How often are you sad? Do you try to not be sad when you are? What about when your happy, do you ever try not to be happy?

Sadness is one of the many emotions God gives us. A big theme in Inside Out is that Joy tries to put Sadness in the corner, away from everything because she things Riley needs to be happy all the time. Here’s the thing, God gave us these emotions for a reason. They aren’t good or bad, we just need to know how the impact us and how to use them. I will use my sadness to rest, pray, and reflect. How do you handle your sadness.

Scripture
  • Mathew 5:4 – Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.
  • Ecclesiastes 1:18 – For with much wisdom comes much sorrow; the more knowledge, the more grief.
  • Romans 12:15 – Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn.
Reflection

We all are sad from time to time. It’s not a bad thing as it helps us value the good that God brings in our life. Our Romans and Matthew text go hand in hand. When we are sad or mounting we will be comforted. This comfort comes from God and from one another. There is a great calm found when being comforted by those you love. We will have both heavenly and Earthly comfort.

God never gives us anything more than we can handle. When times are hard, which Jesus warned us about, he provides comfort and support.

I am sad and that’s ok. I know I’m supported and this will pass. Jesus will provide and use this time to help me grow.

When you are sad, remember, you are never alone. Seek out comfort from your heavenly father and he will answer.

Challenge

No challenge today. Just reflect on your sadness and how you moved on. Jesus was there, wasn’t he?

Prayer

Father God, thank you for the range of emotions you gave us. Help us to use them the way you intended. Put people in our lives who will comfort and help us in good times and bad times. Lord, we want to be happy but understood that being sad isn’t bad and it shouldn’t be avoided. It’s part of the cycle of life. We pray for your constant comfort. In your name, Amen.
