3:317 – Like The Fog Has Lifted
#faithbites #faithjourney #RoadtoEdD fog
Setting
During a meeting today, a colleague said I looked lighter and happier now that I’ve passed my dissertation defense. While I have submitted yet, I do feel lighter and happier
As you know we are big Disney fans in our house and the song “I See The Light” from Tangled came into my head. Specifically the lines:
And at last I see the light
And it’s like the fog has lifted
And at last I see the lightAnd it’s like the sky is new
And it’s warm and real and bright
And the world has somehow shifted
All at once everything looks different
We all have had something that is weighing us down. Maybe you have something right now that is making your heart and your head heavy. You may feel that there is a fog over everything you do. Know that there is one person who can carry any load and whose burden is light. Seek out Jesus! He will carry your load, carry you, and help you through whatever is troubling you.
Scripture
- Matthew 11:28 – “Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest.
- Psalm 81:6 – “Now I will take the load from your shoulders; I will free your hands from their heavy tasks.
Reflection
Jesus has the power to give us rest AND to ease our load. Too often we are walking with a heavy burden through the fog because we don’t see him. And if we do see him, we don’t trust him to help us with this.
My dissertation and program took me over six years. I found Jesus 2 years in and still didn’t give him that burden. I kept it as I felt I had to do it myself. At the same time, I have many other burdens that I feel no one will understand and it weighs me down. Too many days have I walked through the fog with no end in sight.
Why do we do this to ourselves? Jesus is telling us we don’t have to. He is saying to take his yoke and give our problems to him. Maybe it’s pride or sin. I don’t know, but I want to make the change.
Let us look to Jesus to be lighter and happier. We can look to the serenity prayer, “God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
courage to change the things I can,
and wisdom to know the difference” for guidance. We are not God and we shouldn’t try to be. We need to let him lift the fog from our eyes and be light.
While there are challenges ahead, I am not alone. Nor are you!
Challenge
What is burdening you? What fog is over your eyes? Can you trust in Jesus to help you through whatever challenge you have? Take a moment to write down your struggles and burdens and give it to God. Let him help you and make you light.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, help us to trust you always. We walk in a fog and want to see clearly. Help us to know your yoke is light and you will take away any burden. Remove our pride and false sense that we should have to struggle with this. Let us know that you are God and will help no matter the situation.
Lord, we love you and praise you. We pray that you make our burdens light, our eyes clear, and our hearts full of your love. In your name, Amen.
