2:284 – Truth, Justice, And The Christian Way
#faithbites #faithjourney Justice
He fights for Truth, Justice, and the American Way. As a huge superman fan, I know this by heart. Lately, I’ve been struggling with the American way and the Christian Way. There aren’t synonymous and can conflict. I dont have this figured out and I’m not sure if I ever will. I know that I believe in God and the concept of a free country.
When I was thinking about what to write tonight, I googled bible verse of the day and had one that fits perfectly. How do you balance your beliefs and our country’s laws?
Scripture
“This is what the LORD Almighty said: ‘Administer true justice; show mercy and compassion to one another. Do not oppress the widow or the fatherless, the foreigner or the poor. Do not plot evil against each other – Zechariah 7:9-10
Reflection
Again, we have love each other. No oppression (widow, fatherless, foreigner, or poor). Love by showin true justice which is both mercy and compassion. And finally no plotting evil or harm against others.
This doesnt say to do these things only to those who agree with you. Its to all people. We dont have to like someone’s behavior or agree with them to show them compassion, mercy, and justice.
I dont think I’ll ever live in a society where my beliefs match 100% with the laws. I do know I want to live in a place where I can share my Christian beliefs, work to change those laws I don’t agree with, and be with people who will challenge me. At the same time, I realize that my Christian beliefs aren’t the same as other Christian’s. Imagine how boring it would be if we were all the same. God made us all unique so let’s cherish that.
Challenge
How can we live a respectful life even when people disrespect you? Seek out ways to change your responses. Love them and when you can’t, wish them well and wall away.
Prayer
Father God, help us to use your word to provide justice that is filled with both mercy and compassion. Help your children as we struggle with the disconnect between your law and man’s law. Give us the strength to respect all of your children, especially those who disagree with us. You mae all of us and we want to respecct you always. Thank you Lord. Amen
