July 20 – Burnout Is Real
2:201 – Burnout Is Real

#faithbites #faithjourne Burnout

Work, home, kids, school, volunteerism, and life can wear on you. Even those who “have it good”, get burned out. Those who know me, know me as an engaged helpful energetic person. Those traits come with a price: Extreme amounts of energy are needed. And while I may recharge fast, not having that time over long periods of time, makes for a burned out grumpy Sol.

Do you experience Burnout? It could be at home, work, church, service, anything. It’s that feeling when you are just done. You want your own time. It can commonly come with depression as well.

While we need physical rest, our spiritual rests comes from the Lord.

Scripture
  • Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. “Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and YOU WILL FIND REST FOR YOUR SOULS. “For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”Matthew 11:28-30
  • From the end of the earth I will cry to You, When my heart is overwhelmed; Lead me to the rock that is higher than IPsalm 61:2
Reflection

Jesus is our rock and salvation. He is higher than we will ever be. Jesus can lift us up when our tears create rivers. He is gentle and humble. Jesus tells us to take his yoke as it is light. Not only will he heal us and give us strength, he makes our load easier.

My faith is strong. Days like today, when I just want to be alone and just want quiet, if I didn’t have Him, I’m not sure what I would do.

Just know that we all have heavy loads and all feel Burnout. There is nothing wrong with that. The Lord will heal us if we ask.

Tonight, I will pray, listen to God, and take a little me time.

Charge

Here’s a two parter for you. First, acknowledge your Burnout. It’s ok. It’s normal. It’s a sign that you are putting in your energy and time in something. The second part, is turn it over to Jesus. Ask for healing and to be reenergized.

Prayer

Heavenly Lord, help all of us who are struggling with Burnout. It isn’t easy to acknowledge when we are weak and need rest. Show us the right way to reenergize without hurting those around us. Give us your strength, your love, and energy so we can serve you better. In your name, Amen.
