2:90 – I’m Going To Raise A Hallelujah
#faithnites #faithjourney
Today’s #faithbite is going to a bit different. We are going to define a church word and walk through a song. Why? Because this is a blog about faith, and singing is a great way to share it. I was working the soundboard today with my eldest and got to sing with her. Great bonding experience.
Today’s Word is Hallelujah. We say it over and over again but what does it mean. Here is the origin:
Hallelujah (/ˌhælɪˈluːjə/HAL-i-LOO-yə) is an English interjection. It is a transliteration of the Hebrew word הַלְלוּיָהּ (Modern Hebrewhaleluya, Tiberianhaləlûyāh), which is composed of two elements: הַלְלוּ (second-person imperative masculine plural form of the Hebrew verb hillel: an exhortation to “praise” addressed to several people[1]) and יָהּ (the name of God Jah or Yah). So in a nutshell it means, Praise God.
Ther is a new song called Raise a Hallelujah by Jonathan David Helser, Melissa Helser, Molly Skaggs. It’s pretty awesome. Basically it says no matter the storms, the troubles, tribulations, praising God (Raising A Hallelujah) will always lift you up.
Scripture
- Praise the Lord! Sing to the Lord a new song, his praise in the assembly of the godly – Psalm 149:1
- Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope – Romans 5:3-4
- I will bless the Lord at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth. My soul makes its boast in the Lord; let the humble hear and be glad. Oh, magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt His name together!” – Psalm 34:1b-3
Reflection
These are three of many scriptures about raise a praise to the Lord. We pray for him to multiple our blessings and divide our sorrows.
From the song:
I raise a hallelujah, in the presence of my enemies.
I raise a hallelujah, louder than the unbelief
I raise a hallelujah, my weapon is a melody
I raise a hallelujah, Heaven comes to fight for me
I’m gonna sing, in the middle of the storm
Louder and louder, you’re gonna hear my praises roar
Up from the ashes, hope will arise
Death is defeated, the King is alive
It’s pretty simple. There is nothing that can defeat God. In the middle of the storm, that’s when we need to sing the loudest. He is here for us.
Charge
Are you a Sunday Praiser? Maybe an in the showers singer? How about a walking down the street singing? However you do it, remember there is always tome for God and never a wrong time to raise it up. You are blessed, even in the middle of the storm. Give him thanks always.
Prayer
Gracious God, thank you for the gift of song. Thank you giving us the ability to praise you. Take away our embarrassment and shyness that stop is from raising up a Hallelujah. You are the King above all kings. The one lifts us up in the middle of the storm. You are a Good, Good Father. Amen
