December 29 – I resolve to… Rest
363 – I resolve to… Rest

#faithbites #faithjourmey rest

This is the fourth entry in our resolve series. This follows anger management, finishing what you started, and being grateful for what you have.

Last night I shared a bed with my youngest in a hotel. Needless to say, neither of us got much sleep. She tossed and turned, whined, cried, and fought most of the night. This morning she was pretty crummy bit then with her cousins, right as rain. She crashed on the way home of course, and since I was driving, I couldn’t sleep.

When I don’t sleep, I get grumpy. It also aggravates my anxiety making for a very rough day.

Many times when someone asks us how we are doing, we reply tired or exhausted or something like that. While lack of sleep is a factor, most of our exhaustion is we are mentally and emotionally drained. I am no exception.

When we resolve to rest, it has to me more than just trying g to get additional hours at night in bed, it has to include emotional and spiritual renewal.

Scripture
  • And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you – 1 Peter 5:10
  • Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. – Matthew 11:28
  • He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. – Psalm 23:3
Reflection

Napping is awesome and is wasted.on the youth. Sleeping is amazing but we don’t get enough of it. Emotional and spiritual rest is even more important than physical rest but we don’t get enough of it.

There are many many scripture verses where Jesus and God tell us to come to them for renewal, but we don’t. We try to do everything by ourselves, even when we know everything is possible with God.

Of all the resolve #faithbites, I think this will be the hardest for me. When I am exhausted I do more to try to fill the hole and get peace that way. Sometimes, not doing and resting is what is needed.

Of course, we need to up our physical rest, we need to make sure we go to God to up our spiritual rest
