252 – Hold On To These Moments as They Pass
#faithbites #faithjourney #concert moments
Sitting on a grassy hill on an overcast day, music blaring, people singing, lights flashing, and my oldest laying in my lap cuddling. That is a moment I never want to forget. She complete trust me in to keep her warm, to protect her, and to always be there for her. This is but one of the many moments we had at the Live / Counting Crows concert yesterday. In “A Long December”, one of my favorite lyrics is: “I can’t remember all the time I tried to tell myself to hold on to these moments as they pass”. That was one of those moments I never want to forget. (Yes, I know I already said that. This is how powerful that moment is). Life isn’t made of up huge life-changing moments, just small touching moments. In our crazy busy life, it’s easy to go through the motions, check things off the list and go onto the next.
I don’t know about you, but I’ve had times when I look back at a day or even an event and I have almost no recollection of it. I remember it happened but have no early idea on what happened. It was as if I stepped “out the front door like a ghost into a fog where no one notices the contrast of white on white”. (Yup, another Counting Crows lyric).
How often do you walk through life like a ghost? Do you forget those precious moments? How do you hold on to them?
Scripture on Memories
- But God remembered Noah and all the beasts and all the cattle that were with him in the ark; and God caused a wind to pass over the earth, and the water subsided. – Genesis 8:1
- “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you.” – John 14:26
Reflection
The coldnessĀ of that night on the hill will be forgotten. As will the long drive home and even the playlist. What I pray is that both my daughter and I don’t forget the warmth that we shared both in body and in having this time together. Just like that, we are to remember God and he is to remember us.
Very early in the Bible (Genesis 8), God didn’t forget his promise to Noah. He took care of him and made good on his promise. He dried up the waters. God made Noah, his family, and the animals prosperous. God will never forget or forsake us.
Likewise, Jesus knows sometimes we have trouble remembering him and what he has taught us. God has given us the Holy Spirit to help us remember him. It is through the Holy Spirit where we feel God and our faith grows.I had an adult baptism and remember some of that day. Especially my daughter biting me, but that’s another story. I don’t remember the specific order of service or who said what when. My daughters surely don’t remember the moment of their baptism but they remember what happened that day. They have the Holy Spirit in their lives and he grows their faith daily.

What moments will you remember? Why and how do you keep those memories? Create diary, a blog, or something to help you remember what truly is important in life.
Lord, help me to hold on to these moments as they pass. Give me the strength to remember the feeling and why those moments were so important to me.
