201 – The Power of Reading
#FaithBites #FaithJourney Read
This morning, while getting ready in the shower, I looked at the hotel shampoo and conditioner. At first I thought I would have to explain to my daughter when she got in the shower which one was the shampoo and which was the conditioner. Then I remembered she could read. She didn’t need me to tell her which was which, or give directions or anything. She had power in reading.
This got me back, as many things do, to faith and God. I imagine what I would do if I couldn’t read the word. What would happen if I needed someone to read the word to me. The power that person would have over me would be tremendous. This is the case of what happened prior to the printing press and the Reformation. People didn’t have the Word in a way they can read it.
Scripture on Readong the Word
- But he answered, “It is written, “‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’” – Matthew 4:4
- With my whole heart I seek you; let me not wander from your commandments! I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you. – Psalm 119:10-11
Reflection
Imagine not hearing the words above. Not going to the source, or being able to cross reference the word across with other scripture. I love and appreciate our preachers. They help to direct our worship and increase our knowledge. But I don’t need them to read the word. They help me to understand the word and it’s relation to daily life. This post isn’t to disconnect them, but rather that God’s word is available for us to read at any time
The question is do you realize how important and valuable of a resource this is? Do you take advantage of reading his word?
Charge
The word is available free online and app form. Many churches will give you a free physical copy if you want. Today’s charge is will you take advantage of the Word being available in your language? Will you read it and share it with others?
I also willing with the help of God.
