January 22 – Self-Care and Community

Today’s lesson is on self-care and community.
As we’ve talked life is hard. Or in modern parlance #AdultingSucks and #ParentingSucks. We have many responsibilities: To our family. To our jobs. To our houses. To our bills. To our volunteer efforts. To everything. Two of these responsibilities are usually forgotten: responsibility to God and responsibility to self.

We give and give but when we are short of time we skip church or worship. We don’t take time for ourselves. Both of these are needed for a good life. We need to turn our problems to God. We need to breathe and do things that are fun. We need to be in communion with others. Church helps with some of this. I’m not saying you need to go to my church or even a Sunday service. There are many ways to worship with others on a regular basis. Find what works for you.

“casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you. Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. Resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same kinds of suffering are being experienced by your brotherhood throughout the world.” – 1 Peter 5:7-9 ESV

In the past two years, I have done much better with the relationship to God part. I am still struggling with my own self time and balance. Adam and I talked about this and turning things over and how hard it is. He told me I am not alone and millions are struggling worse than I. At first, being selfish, I thought it was saying my concerns weren’t important. In fact, he was reminding me that ‘the same kinds of suffering are being experienced by your brotherhood throughout the world”. My community is there. Your community is there.
Thank you, Adam.
