3:194 – I Don’t Want To Adult Today

Last night was a rough night: bad storm, kid in my bed, kid in the hallway at 3:00 am waking up dog, and dog up at 5. Needless to say, I’m exhausted. It’s one of those days when you just don’t want to adult. I don’t want to cook, clean, work, or deal with kids fighting Do you ever feel like that?

To me, not wanting to adult, is different than giving up. I don’t want to give up, just don’t want to do anything. The fight is still in me, just buried under exhaustion.

Giving up can be easier as you don’t care anymore. Not wanting to adult is hard because you want to fight but you just don’t have it in you.

It’s during these times when we need to call upon the strength of Jesus to keep us going.

Scripture

• Isaiah 26:3 – You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you!
• Romans 15:13 – I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit.

Reflection

Adulting is hard. There are so many demands on our time. God tells us that he will always be with us and we he will never foresake us. All we have to do is keep our eyes fixed on him. No matter how tired or exhausted we are, if we keep focused on God he will fill us with joy, peace, and the power of the Holy Spirit.

This can be hard to do when it seems like you don’t even have the energy for daily tasks. Think about when you go for a run or exercise. It’s hard to get moving and hard while you do it but when you are done, even though you are exhausted, there is new energy and a sense of accomplishment.

The Holy Spirit Will fill you up, you just need to reach out and be open to being filled up.

Challenge

Take the nap or break you need. Before you do it, pray. Ask God to fill you with the Holy Spirit. Seek not to do things on your own but through Jesus. You will find more energy.

Prayer

Father God, your people are tired. Many of us no longer have the energy to adult anymore. Help is to find energy through you Lord. Ease our minds and our let us have rest to be ready for the jobs you have for help. Remove those distractions that just take energy and help us focus on the jobs you want us to do. In your name, Amen.
